Sir Quentin Blake-Inspired Notes

“Just got the cards and they look stunning! We are all very pleased with them.”

This has to be one of my absolute favourite projects to work on as a calligrapher — handwritten thank you notes in the style of Sir Quentin Blake for the cast and crew of The Witches film for 2020 release.

I have always taken great joy in exploring handwriting, spending many hours in high school (procrastinating, one might say; preparing, I’d call it) developing my own style through a series of experimentation. So, to be called on to replicate the style legendary Sir Blake gave me such an immense buzz (that still lingers as I write this, well after the job has been finished).

Of course, there was a certain pressure, but the wonderful graphic design team at The Roald Dahl Story Company assured me that the style was to be inspired, not an exact replica, and their feedback at the end really made the whole project sing.
